Holt, Doneen, Gelbach, Newby, Stoner <br />PRESENT: <br />7 Azer, Wall, BOTH notified staff about being unable to attend <br />ABSCENT: <br />8 Anfang, Brokke <br />STAFF: <br />9 <br />10 <br /> <br />11 1. <br />INTRODUCTIONS <br />12 <br />13 2. <br />ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT <br />14 No Public comment at the start of meeting. Community members in attendance reserved their comments for <br />15 later in the meeting. <br />16 <br />17 3. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES FEBRUARY 3, 2015 MEETING <br />18 February 3, 2015 minutes passed unanimously. <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br />20 Chair D. Holt recognized and conveyed appreciation to Assistant Director Jill Anfang on the thoroughness <br />21 of the minutes. The Commission agreed. <br />22 <br /> <br />23 4. <br />DEER POPULATION DISCUSSION <br />24 Brokke spoke on the upcoming March 9, 2015 Council meeting where the Commission will share the <br />25 findings from recent studies, Commission discussions and resident input on the issue of deer management in <br />26 Roseville. At this time the Commission will make a recommendation to the Council for their consideration <br />27 and action. <br />28 <br />29 Commissioners Newby & Stoner worked with Director Brokke to draft the report on Rosevilles deer <br />30 population for the Council. Newby summarized the key points of the report along with the recommendation <br />31 to the Council. Based on Commission findings & Resident input, the recommendation includes; <br />32 Continue monitoring and inventorying deer population in Roseville <br />· <br />33 Develop a Wildlife Management Ordinance with penalties & enforcement strategies <br />· <br />34 Pursue Wildlife feeding restrictions <br />· <br />35 Provide options for a controlled hunt following established criteria <br />· <br />36 <br />37 Commissioner D. Holt reiterated the objective is to collaborate with Ramsey County and the surrounding <br />38 communities on a deer management program. Commissioner Doneen inquired further into how a <br />39 coordinated effort might work. <br />40 Brokke explained that Ramsey County will help but the decisions and implementation process is up to <br />41 the individual communities. Brokke spoke of how the collaboration will be based on opening <br />42 communication among interested communities and encouraging shared knowledge among those <br />43 communities participating. <br />44 <br />45 Brokke and commissioners recognized there is currently a number of deer management and wildlife <br />46 management plans available for reference when creating Rosevilles plan and ordinance. <br />47 <br />48 Doneen added a reminder that the key objective when managing wildlife is to be sure native plants are not <br />49 impacted in the process. <br />50 <br />51 <br /> <br /> <br />
