Gelbach <br />2 <br />3 City Council Direction to Parks and Recreation Dept <br />4 Excerpted From DRAFT — Minutes City Council Meeting <br />5 Monday, November 17, 2014 <br />6 <br />7 Joint Meeting with Parks and Recreation Commission <br />8 Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Dave Holt <br />9 Commissioners Lee Diedrick and Jerry Stoner <br />10 Parks & Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke. <br />11 <br />12 Chair Holt provided a brief reap of activities of the Commission since last meeting with <br />13 the City Council; and expressed the Commission's interest in meeting jointly on a quarterly basis <br />14 as agenda topics provide applicable. <br />15 <br />16 Members addressed items as detailed in the Request for Council Action (RCA) dated <br />17 November 17, 2014. <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 Deer Po <br />Buladon in Roseville <br />23 Commission is seeking direction from the City Council on specific issues with managing the <br />24 deer population. <br />25 <br />26 Overview <br />27 To date Parks and Recreation have explored preliminary information on the logistics and process <br />28 for a managed hunt in Roseville. More discussion and direction is needed prior to pursuing a <br />29 managed hunt due to the different Population densities of deer across Roseville <br />30 Parks and Rec feels that additional information is needed including: <br />31 0 Costs <br />32 o Control mechanism <br />33 o Control options for individuals and control options for the community other than simply <br />34 engaging in a hunt. <br />35 Possible action items based on Council discussion. <br />36 Find out how other communities respond to the deer population problem. <br />37 o Need for joint effort by communities to address this regional problem. <br />38 o Include Ramsey County, as well as neighboring communities. <br />39 o Examine the possibility and/or value of of partnering with other communities region - <br />40 ally, not just jurisdictionally. <br />41 o Identify successful and/or non -successful methods, measures including both hunt and non - <br />42 hunt control options. Also gather more tracking data and information. <br />43 o Provide information on if and how City could help individual residents having issues <br />44 with deer devouring their plantings. <br />45 a Provide variety of options and recommendations to the City Council for review and possible <br />46 action. <br />
