Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday,April 13, 2015 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Councilmember Laliberte thanked City Attorney Gaughan for his annual Ethics Training <br /> for staff, City Councilmembers and Advisory Commissioners; with Mayor Roe concur- <br /> ring that it was a good and informative presentation again this year. <br /> In his role as a Member of the North Suburban Cable Commission's Board of Directors, <br /> Mayor Roe provided an update, noting that CenturyLink's application for a second fran- <br /> chise serving the nine member communities had been received by the Commission, and <br /> would come before the Commission this month for consideration, with a report from <br /> Commission staff and their recommendation as to whether to pursue an agreement. If <br /> that occurred, Mayor Roe advised that the next step would be initiation of franchise <br /> agreement negotiations, and if that proceeded as well, he anticipated that it would come <br /> before the City Councils of those nine member cities in late summer or early fall. <br /> Councilmember McGehee questioned the status of Comcast. <br /> Mayor Roe advised that Comcast was still involved, but the CenturyLink proposal would <br /> be a competitive franchise. Mayor Roe noted that Comcast's merger with Time Warner <br /> continued to be delayed, creating the necessity for the Cable Commission to extend the <br /> current franchise agreement under the same contract terms for another two years, as pre- <br /> viously acted upon by the City Council. <br /> 6.
