In regards to the Roseville Historical Society, staff has been working with the board to relocate them
into a park building in Evergreen Park. Unfortunately, building code requirements require substantial
upgrades to the building (nearly $300,000) for them to locate in Evergreen Park. Given that fact, staff
has been looking at potentially including office space (and maybe display space) in any new storage
building the City would utilize. Similarly, the Roseville Fire Relief Association will be looking for
ofiice space and could be included in a new storage building.
Staff has done some preliminary work on identifying properties that would be able to meet our storage
needs (approximately 15,000 -20,000 square feet) and accommodate users such as the Roseville
Historical Society and Roseville Fire Relief Association. At the meeting, staff will present information
about potential properties to consider.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS
While the Fairview Fire Station property is currently assessed at $1,738,700 ($904,800 for land,
$833,900 for the building) by Ramsey County, staff is doubtful hat the property can be sold for that
amount. In addition, only about half the property would be sold due the City retaining the area around
the water tower. Nevertheless, the funds from the sale of the property to private party could be used to
- help fund a solution for the storage and space needs of the City and affiliated organizations.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Fairview Fire Station property be put on the market for sale for a future
business/commercial use. However, prior to advertising the property for sale, the City will need to have
a solution for the City storage and space needs in place. To that end, staff first recoinmends that the
City Council direct staff to identify properties and/or buildings that can be used as permanent
centralized storage and fill the space needs for the City and affiliated organizations and return to a
future meeting with options for the City Council to consider.
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION
Will be based on discussion.
Prepared by: Patrick Trudgeon, City Manager (65l ) 792-7021 pat.trud eg on(ccityofroseville.com
Attachments: A: Aerial Map of 2501 Fairview Ave. (Fairview Fire Station)
