Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 18, 2015 <br />Page 8 of 9 <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br />a. Summer Youth Book Read <br />Commissioner Bachhuber stated Commissioner Carey and her had met with Youth <br />Commissioner Cederberg. The Committee determined they would like to set a launch date in <br />June and target I Orh and 11 t�' grade students. She had contacted the Teen Librarian and he would <br />be willing to provide space for the discussions. His recommendation was the discussions be for <br />teens only. Youth Commissioner Cederberg would be talking with teachers to see if they would <br />be interested in facilitating discussions, offering questions for discussion, or advice on which <br />books to choose. They Library has also offered to publicize the event. They are expecting to <br />have a book title identified in March. <br />Youth Commissioner Thao stated she had contacted a couple of teachers and she would continue <br />to follow up with them. <br />Staff Report <br />a. Finance Update and Discussion <br />Ms. Collins reviewed the budget and she would update this with the Essay Contest award <br />information once the budget has been determined. She explained there is a small cost included <br />for the civility training to cover refreshments if the Commission decides to provide this. <br />Commissioner Becker suggested including the increase budget amount and the expenditure for <br />the preparation of minutes in order to show a complete picture. <br />Commissioner Slade explained the Mental Health Forum was budgeted for $300 but at this time <br />the expenditures are $100. She stated she would provide a draft letter for Ms. Collins to use to <br />request donations of treats and beverages for this event. <br />b. Other Items <br />Chair Groff stated he had gone to the Community Engagement Commission meeting and they <br />had a representative from the Immigrant Experience. They have offered to come and talk to the <br />HRC as well. <br />Future Agenda Items <br />Commissioner Becker suggested adding discussions regarding the essay contest and generating <br />more interest and participation. <br />
