Human Rights Commission Minutes
May 20, 2015
Commissioner Christiansen asked if the applications could be ranked first, second, and third, and
award everyone.
Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated they could not be ranked because they were all different.
Commissioner Christiansen stated if they do not recognize all three nominations then they should
only recognize one person.
Ms. Collins suggested recognizing all three with a spot light on their human rights activity. This
would make the event more a recognition of the applicant's work and effort. They could include
this information in the City's Newsletter and Roseville Review, on the City's website and they
would be recognized at a City Council meeting.
Commissioner Bachhuber clarified that winners of the award would be notified via phone call
from the HRC Chair, followed by a letter from the HRC, and at minimum the awardees would be
recognized and presented a certificate at a City Council meeting. The awardees would also be
recognized in community communications and publications.
Chair Groff would encourage recognizing all three applicants.
Youth Cederberg agreed with this recommendation.
Chair Groff stated he would forward the nominations to the entire Commission for review. The
Committee could recommend moving ahead with all three nominations at this time.
Commissioner Slade moved and Commissioner Christiansen seconded a motion to accept
all three nominations for recognition by the HRC, move forward with publicizin this
reconition and have the uresentation of an award added to a Citv Council agenda. The
motion passed. 4-Ayes and 1-Abstain (Bachhuber).
c. Parade Discussion
Chair Groff provided the length of the pickup and trailer that would be used in the parade. He
asked if the Commission would be able to budget for balloons for the float.
Commissioner Singleton arrived at 6:30 p.m.
Ms. Collins stated the Commission could decide to budget for balloons.
Chair Groff explained the trailer would cost the Commission $69. It had been recommended the
Commission look at getting new letters for signage versus recycling the previous materials. He
suggested the Commission also get balloons, fringe for the trailer, and PVC piping to create an
arch for the "Roseville" letters. He estimated the total cost for the float would be around $200.
