he Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, celebrating
92 years of service in 2014, continues to engage, serve and support
people in need through its mission and ministry. While the Society
experienced a number of challenges in 2014, our mission remained
strong with the work of committed staff inembers focused on the
Society's success.
The Affordable Care Act and changing reimbursement systems continue
to impact healthcare for people across the country, including those the
Society serves. The Society is adjusting to these changing environments,
although not without feeling financial pressures. Market downturn in
rehabilitation and skilled care impacted revenues resulting in financial loss,
but the underpinnings of the Society's financial health remain strong.
To position the Good Samaritan Society for the future, we determined a
strategic focus in 2014 that, moving forward, calls for growth in:
• Post-acute rehabilitation services
• Home- and community-based services
• Housing and assisted living with adjacent services
• New services to support people wherever they call home
These strategies will allow the Society's revenues to grow and help offset
financial pressures felt by small, rural locations that are no longer able to
sustain themselves due to declining populations and workforce.
Attachment A
PRESIDENT AND
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
A new executive team named in 2014 will lead these strategies. Team members
are Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Syverson;
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Grant Tribble and
Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Bergen Peterson.
Collectively, they bring both internal and external perspective and experience
to strengthen and move the Society forward.
Over the years, the Society has experienced ebbs and flows financially, yet our
organization has not changed in its focus on and commitment to our mission
and the people we serve. With more than 21,000 employees dedicated to
serving others with Christ-like love and compassion, the Society, with God's
guidance, remains focused on serving the needs of others.
r e are excited about the future growth of our mission so more lives can be
ch'ed in a way that helps people feel loved, valued and at peace.
P

David J. Horazdovsky
5
