To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Lonnie Brokke
Date: November 23, 2015
Re: Notes for Commission
1. Introductions
2. Public Comment Invited
Meeting on Tuesday December 1, 2015
3. Approval of Minutes of the November 5, 2015 Meeting
Enclosed is a copy of the minutes of November 5, 2015. Please be prepared to approve or
amend.
Requested Commission Action: Approve/amend meeting minutes of November 5, 2015.
4. Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Update
The first Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) positive tree was discovered in Roseville in March of
2013. At that point Roseville was considered an "infested area" by the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Minnesota Department Agriculture (MDA), two
agencies that are heavily involved in providing guidance. Since then, there has been
continuous monitoring, education, and other work done. Public outreach and
communication has been an important component that will continue.
Anita Twaroski has been our part time seasonal Forestry Technician for many years. In
order to provide more consistent monitoring of the overall Disease and Hazardous Tree
Program, including EAB, Anita was hired in June, 2015 as a 1/2 time, year around Forestry
Coordinator to work on the program.
It has been very beneficial to have Anita in this capacity and focus on this area. It will be
particularly helpful as the upcoming typical "off season" is coming and she will be able to
continue her work. She will be at your meeting to be introduced, provide you with a brief
history, discuss the status of EAB in Roseville today and hear your thoughts, comments
and suggestions.
Included in your packet is a Minnesota EAB situation update from the MN Department of
Agriculture for your review prior to the meeting.
Requested Commission Action: Update, discuss and provide guidance.
5. Follow up Discussion on the joint meeting with the City Council
Thank you for taking another night to be at the City Council meeting on Monday, November
16, it is very much appreciated.
This is an opportunity for you to review and discuss the joint meeting on Monday,
November 16, 2015. Enclosed is an excerpt of the draft minutes of your portion of the
meeting for your reference.
The 2 primary items discussed were the Park Dedication Use of Funds Policy and the
Cedarholm Golf Course.
Requested Commission Action: Review and discuss.
6. Staff Report
7. Other
8. Adjournment
