■ Will have EAB literature at Information Booth.
MITIGATION:
Biological Control:
• EAB bioagent releases wrapped up for the season on September 23rd marking the biggest year of releases to
date. Over 182,000 of the parasitoid wasps (T. planipennisi and O. agrili) were released at 12 sites in the Twin
Cities and southeast Minnesota (Figures 3 and 4).
• Bioagent recovery work will begin to pick back up with ash bark and branch sampling activities at various EAB
infestation sites around the state. The sampling will be performed throughout the fall and winter months. Ash
bark samples have already begun to be collected and processed from sites in the Twin Cities.
• New release site selection will happen in the spring once the majority of visual survey has been conducted at
newer EAB infestations found over the last year(s).
Bioagent
2010
2011
2012
2013
2014
2015
All Years
Improving Emerald Ash Borer Detection Efficacy for Control
Release
Release
Release
Release
Release
Release
Combined
#'s
#'s
#'s
#'s
#'s
#'s
Tetrastichus
planipennisi
2,154
19,480
19,822
42,579
34,434
151,022
266,611
Oobius agrili
0
3,641
10,241
8,597
12,062
31,490
66,031
Spathius
agrili
1,172
7,596
15,258
0
0
0
24,026
Totals
1 3,326
1 30,717
1 45,321
51,176
46,496
182,512
359,548
RESEARCH:
Tracking the EAB Infestation Core
• A total of 58 new study trees in zones 2 and 3 were selected for the "Tracking the EAB Infestation Core Study" to
maintain a robust monitoring network. That brings the total number of study trees to be sampled this winter to
176 (Figure 5).
• A random point ash inventory for zones 2 and 3 of the study area was completed during the summer with data
collected on presence and health of public ash trees. Data is being analyzed at this time to estimate the total
public ash resource within the study area. Results can then be
compared to actual management outcomes from forestry department
records involved in the study.
Improving Emerald Ash Borer Detection Efficacy for Control
• Trap removals are in progress across the study sites
'
• Branch sampling has begun at Fort Snelling with Duluth and Great River
Bluffs happening later this month
AND NATURAL RESOURCES
TRUST FUND
