Department Approval <br />Item Description: <br />BACKGROUND <br />�:i � <br />� <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Accept Donation from Leola Rempel <br />Date: 12/7/2015 <br />Item No.: 8.f <br />City Manager Approval <br />In 2014 the Roseville Police Department began testing and evaluating the use of body-worn cameras in <br />the field of policing. So far, the department has recognized many benefits to the use of cameras as a <br />� valuable tool for documenting incidents and collecting evidence as well as enhancing public perception <br />through increased transparency and accountability. <br />The department wishes to continue testing and evaluating available cameras as it also recognizes the <br />importance of developing comprehensive policies to ensure privacy, address community concerns and <br />create a roadmap for handling data retention, public disclosure and budget implications. <br />�� Following a recent League of Women Voters Police Chief Forum in which the topic of body-worn <br />cameras was discussed, resident Leola Rempel approached the Roseville Police Department in support <br />of efforts to continue testing and evaluating cameras. She wishes to make a donation of $3,000 to <br />further expand the Roseville Police Department's body-worn camera program. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />Allow the police department to accept the funds donated by Roseville resident Leola RempeL The <br />donated funds will further support the department's testing and evaluation of body-worn cameras in the <br />field of policing. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />There is no cost to the city. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Allow the police department to accept the funds donated by Leola Rempel. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION <br />Request Council approval to accept the donation fram Roseville resident Leola Rempel. <br />Prepared by: Chief Rick Mathwig <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />
