RCA Exhibit A
Caly?ct, Inc.
''ritten Narrative of Use
Bacround
RPCA Attachment C
Appendix #7.e.
Cayxt, based ir Mirnesota {«ti{.calvxt.car) and currently operatin in Nev Brighton,
is an AgBiotc %rm focusing orr impraved traits for crops io create healthier facrd. The
cornpany is the icense holder of key intellectual property hat allows us tc ereat traits in
crop plants in a very effecive ard efficient matter. Caiyxt is currertly a wholy-awned
suhsidiar} of Celleetis 5.4, a publicly held company French cornpany. Cellectis has
funded Calyxt's operating needs since its ineeptian in 2010. Caiyxt currentiy empoys
approxitnately ?5 employees, mostly in scientific pasitions with plans ta expand ta 140
highly-educated employees in the next khree years. The vast majority of jobs created will
be proessio►al scientific gositions with base salaries ranging from 40,Q00 to S1?0,000.
Buildin
Calytct requires an expanded facility ta perform research and product developmert n a
variety of crop piants, w°ith specific needs to perfarm standard plant mlecular biology
and plant tissue culture procedures, and to othervise support its cotrraercial grativth
plans. The rnain builtiing ill be pproximately 40,40 square feet, vith roughly 20,000
square feet dedicated t a plant malecuIar biology nd plant tissue culture labs.
The proposed building and research plots ate intended to be a"showcase" faeility, being
both visually appealin and a functional, highteeh ptant rescarch location. The eompany
iatends to maintain the building and grounds in a manner comzanensurate t}e cutting-edge
technology and image Calyxt intensis to prornate.
Research Labs
The molecular biology and plant tissue culture labs wiIl eonduct routine molecular
bialogy tasks similar to thase performed at research facilities of other A,Biatech
eompanies and by University af I'vlinnesata agicultural research centers. The C1SUA has
issued letters to Calyxt on or soybean and pcxato produet recognizing them as nan-
regulated as we have not introduced as farein genetic matera. This us consistent with
our foeus to de•elop healtier foad through non-GMC) means.
Plant Groth Facilites and Research Plots
Calyxt operates in the AgBiotech industry, so it is vitally importan# to have plant rowth
facilities and agriculttral researc plots adjacent tQ our molecular bioloy and tassue
culture labs. These plant re►tivth facilities will include indoar plant growth rooms, plant
rowtl chmbers. neenhouses, agricultural plots and a storage shed for agricultural
►rachinery. The reenhauses (6,000 square feet) and agricultural plot5 (-5 acres tatal)
will be used to grow a variety Qf row crops commonly rown in the LJ.S. (soybean, earn,
potato, wheat, canola, alfalfa, brley, rce, etc.), and otker nich crops if thy arise as
pramising. The greenhouses till abut the buildin; and be screened by a ferce to prevent
vandalism or thef. The agriculturI research plots w911 be maintained, similar to those at
Page 8 of 14 Page 2 of 3
