47
48
49
50
51
52
Human Rights Commission Minutes
December 17, 2014 — Draft Minutes
Page 2 of ] 1
Old Business
a. Civility Training Update
53 Commissioner Carey stated she had been able to secure $1,000 of the required funding with a
54 partnership with the Roseville Public Library. The Library has agreed to host the event, provide
55 the space, and sign up capabilities. The Commission is not designated as a 501 c3 so they are no
56 eligible to receive funding from the Roseville Community Fund. They could look into
57 partnering with a 501 c3 company. They had requested funding from the City Council but they
58 requested the Commission look for other sources of funding at this time. She stated she had not
59 heard back from the Rotary Club at this time.
60
61 Commissioner Bachhuber asked if the Commission was allowed to accept donations.
62
63 Ms. Collins stated the Commission is able to accept donations. She recommended talking to the
64 Park Department to discuss how they solicit donations and also to have other Commissioners get
65 involved with this.
66
67 Commissioner Carey stated she would forward the information she had along with the website
68 for the institute that would be providing the training to Ms. Collins and she could distribute the
69 information to other Commissioners. She explained in order to meet the projected timeline and
70 have the training in April the Commission would have to have the funding secured and the date
71 set by the end of December. This would allow the Library time to promote the event.
72
73 Commissioner Singleton stated he is an advisor for a couple of 501 c3 organizations and he could
74 talk to the boards to see if they may be interested in partnering with the Commission for this
75 training then the Commission would be able to apply far the Roseville Community Fund. The
76 Commission could create a non-profit organization and apply for a SOlc3 but this process could
77 take up to a year.
7s
79
80
81
82
83
84
85
Ms. Collins did not believe an advisory commission would be able to get 501 c3 status.
Commissioner Singleton explained the Commission would have to vote to create a separate non-
profit entity.
Commissioner Thao stated it would be a good discussion for the Commission.
86 Ms. Collins suggested the Commission look for Council support prior to looking further into
87 setting up a 501 c3 and this could be a discussion the Commission has at the next joint meeting
88 with the City Council.
89
90 Commissioner Carey stated they are not expecting to meet the deadline in order to schedule the
91 training in April but the Library will keep the Commission updated on the Library's availability.
