Human Rights Commission Minutes
August 19, 2015
Old Business
a. Update on Civility Training
Ms. Collins stated the Institute presenters would be arriving the night before the event.
Everything has been finalized except for the food and refreshments with the Library.
Commissioner Christiansen asked if there would be a meet and greet type of event when the
presenters arrive.
Commissioner Carey explained the Institute made all of their own arrangements. They have
talked with the Library about meeting at the site either Friday evening or Saturday morning to
see the setup.
Chair Groff stated the Commission could extend an invitation to the presenters.
Commissioner Christiansen asked if Commissioner Carey would be responsible for introducing
the presenters and the program.
Commissioner Carey stated a representative from the Library would do this.
Commissioner Christiansen suggested the HRC welcome attendees and introduce the presenters
and the program because it is an event sponsored by the HRC. She extended her help, if needed
by the Commission, to continue preparing for this event.
Ms. Collins stated this program has been a partnership between the HRC and the Library and the
Library has also funded the program.
Commissioner Carey explained the Commission would be participating and assisting at the event
but at this time, the details have not been formalized.
Ms. Collins stated the Commission should welcome the participants but there may also be other
Commissions or the City Council represented that may want to welcome participants and/or be
recognized.
Chair Groff stated any welcome would need to be short because participants are there for Civility
Training. He suggested asking the presenters to make some references to how the Civility
Training could be used in City Government because there would be attendees from the City
Council, Commissions, and Staff.
Commissioner Carey stated she would make that request. She asked if a special invitation would
be made to the Police Department and the Fire Department.
