Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />August 19, 2015 <br />Page 6 of 9 <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated the League does not have a question prepared and it is already <br />getting late in arder to provide this information to teachers. The HRC had done a lot of work to <br />prepare a question that aligned with the school's curriculum, put together a packet with the rules <br />and guidelines and entry form. The packet that was prepared can still be used by Roseville. <br />They would insert whichever question the Commission decides to proceed with. The <br />Communications Manager would not have enough time to create a flyer for the contest so she <br />suggested she create one based on what she has already done. <br />Chair Groff stated anything that is sent out needs to be approved by the Communications <br />Manager prior to distribution. <br />Commissioner Christiansen suggested jus� distributing the rules and entry form once the League <br />of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions has finalized the question. She stated she had <br />contacted Ms. Bachhuber and began working on a rubric for grading the questions. <br />d. Review Selma, a Bridge to the Vote <br />Commissioner Slade stated the event had been good. The documentary had been shown first and <br />there was time for discussions afterwards. The Shoreview Human Rights Commission was <br />pleased with the response. The League of Women Voters had a table at the event. She <br />suggested the Commission send a thank you card to the organization for participating. She stated <br />she would like to work with the Shoreview Human Rights Commission on another event. <br />Ms. Collins stated the Shoreview Human Rights Commission would be focusing on Black Lives <br />Matter movement over the next year. <br />Commissioner Slade stated the documentary had been donated to the Library. <br />New Business <br />a. Report on Recent Community Events/Review of Upcoming Events <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated there would be an Overcoming Racism conference November <br />13-14 at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul. There is a grant opportunity from El Fondo <br />de Nuestra Comunidad, which is an affiliate of Minnesota Philanthropy Partners and the St. Paul <br />Foundation. The grant is for those organizations that would like to do projects, initiatives or <br />programs involving Immigration Legal Services and Outreach. The grant application is due <br />October 22. <br />Ms. Collins requested this information be sent to her so she can provide the information to the <br />Legal Department. <br />
