She stated she would reach out to the school social workers and counselors along <br />with parents from the first event, to let them know about the event. This would be a Community <br />Conversation with a speaker and facilitator in the second hal£ She asked if Chair Groff would <br />be the facilitator for the event. <br />Chair Groff stated he would facilitate the second half of the Community Conversation event. <br />Ms. Collins stated the KOM Gala is also in the evening on October 7 and she planned on <br />attending both events. <br />Commissioner Carey asked if the Community Discussion would be recorded. <br />Ms. Collins stated they would not be able to arrange for QCTV to record the event. <br />Commissioner Slade stated she would talk to NAMI about recording the presentation portion of <br />the event. This would not pose any confidentiality issues. <br />Chair Groff suggested asking if the recording could also be used by the City on public access. <br />Commissioner Slade stated she would need assistance with organizing this event due to her <br />schedule and she would let Ms. Collins know what she would need specifically so the <br />Commission is aware. <br />Chair Groff suggested sending information to the Review so that it can be advertised. <br />c. Update on Student Essay Contest <br />Chair Groff stated he had sent all the information to the League of Minnesota Human Rights for <br />their review. He had received the question from the League and found it to be slanderous and <br />leading. This question is not going to work for Roseville so they are going to go back to the <br />original question developed by Roseville on voting rights. By using this question the Roseville <br />students would not be able to enter their essay into the State contest. The League was not happy <br />with Roseville's decision not to participate. He stated he has decided to resign his position with <br />the League because as a board they are not functioning effectively. The goal of the League is <br />admirable but they are not able to get things done in a timely enough manner for him to continue <br />to work with them. He has talked with the City Council about proceeding with the contest at the <br />City level. <br />Commissioner Slade asked if the award amounts could be increased. <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated the information had already been sent out. She stated the flyer <br />had been changed by removing the name of the League of Minnesota Human Rights <br />Commissions. She had talked with three (3) of the seven (7) schools that had received the <br />information. The information has been given to the teachers and one of the principals had stated <br />
