She stated she would follow-up with the other four (4) schools. Chair Groff suggested resending the packets to the schools in early November. He stated the principals were suggesting it was too early to have the information but the teachers they had met with previously had stated they wanted the information in August so they could work with it in the curriculum. Commissioner Slade suggested sending the information on November 2 so the teachers have the information on voting day. Chair Groff suggested Commissioner Christiansen continue to follow-up with the schools. Commissioner Slade appreciated the City taking a stand on the question presented by the League and deciding to move forward with a more appropriate essay question. She asked if Chair Groff's decision to step down would affect the Roseville Commission. Chair Groff stated they are a Commission with the League until the end of the year and if they decide not to pay their dues then they would no longer be a Commission with the League. He also clariiied that the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions was not affiliated with the State Human Rights Department. The League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions is a group trying to organize all of the Human Rights Commissions in counties throughout the State so that Commissions have a means of communicating, sharing ideas, and coordinating projects. Commissioner Slade asked if the League was the sponsor of the Essay Contest. Chair Groff stated the League sponsored the Essay Contest the City had previously participated in. Commissioner Christiansen asked that the November agenda include discussions on renewing the City's membership to the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions. Commissioner Carey asked if the City's Human Rights Commission would need to belong to the League for students to participate in the League's Essay Contest. Chair Groff stated the City's Commission would need to belong to the League. Ms. Collins stated she felt the question proposed by the League was contradictory to what the City of Roseville is doing with the Police Department outreach programs they have been doing. She stated the question posed by the League was also missing an element of building community. Chair Groff stated students could go to the League website and get the question but because the City is not supporting it this year they would not have a means of submitting it for consideration.
