REQUEST FOR RHRA ACTION
Action Items

On May 18, 2010, the RHRA hired George Hornik to assist the RHRA in promoting Roseville’s
neighborhoods and housing. Hornik developed a comprehensive marketing plan that included a
variety of promotional materials as well as a stand-alone website – Livingsmarter.org. The
creation of the website was done primarily because of the design and social media limitations the
City’s website had in 2010.

Since the City has updated its website, the limitations that prompted the creation of
Livingsmarter.org no longer exist and most of what Livingsmarter.org housed is now available
on the City’s website. One element not yet accommodated, however, is the Green Remodeling
Planbook, which was created in partnership with the Family Housing Fund and was intended to
further the “Living Smarter” concept.

On October 18, 2010, the RHRA partnered with the Family Housing Fund to create the first-ever
online Green Remodeling Planbook. The project was completed in 2011. The Green
Remodeling Planbook has been well received both in the Twin Cities Metro area – in 2013 it
won a Twin Cities Community Development Award – and RHRA staff routinely hears from
people around the country who use the information for projects, research, or to earn badges for
scouting programs.

The Green Remodeling Planbook was built into the Livingsmarter.org website and since that
website is no longer needed, the Planbook needs a new home!

RHRA staff contacted the City’s website vendor, Civic Plus, and asked them for a bid to transfer
the Planbook to the City’s website (see Attachment A). Their base cost is $8,000 for just 20
pages (the current Planbook is approximately 85 pages) plus an additional $2,350 to build a
“sister” site that would echo the City website’s look and feel. Additionally, Civic Plus estimated
a $1,575 annual fee for support and maintenance. Staff would do all proofing and review of the
content for accuracy once the website was built.

Further discussion occurred internally with RHRA Staff, the City’s Communication Manager,
and the City’s GIS person to see if a more cost-effective solution could be found. A suggestion
was made to convert the Green Remodeling Planbook web pages into a PDF document with live
links that could be uploaded to the City’s website. A redirect from www.livingsmarter.org/grpb
to the PDF would also be created. The PDF would allow for printing of specific pages (which
isn’t something easily done with the current website) and also provide live links to the online
Green Remodeling Plan Book (03-31-15) -Page 1 of 2
