The
minimum width of unsheeted treneh for pipe less }han 10 inehes shall be
18 inehes and for pipe 10 inchea or larger, at ieaet two foot greater
than the diameter of the pipe, except by consf.nt af the Engineer.
The maximum clear width of the trench at the top of the pipe shall
not be more than two feet greater than the utside diameter of the
pipe.
Unless otherwise specified on the plans, all pipe will be placed in a
flat bottom trench with tamped backfill. The sides of the treneh shall
slope back to provide a stable slope for the particular type of soil in
the trench.
If the trench is excavated to a greater width than authorized, the
Engineer may direet the Contractor to provide a higher elass of
bedding, a higher strength pipe or both, than that required by the
Contract, without additional compensation therefore, as the Engineer
may deem necessary to satisfy the design requirements.
FAULTY GRADE of the trench below grade lines shall be correced with
approved material, thoroughly compaeted without additional com en a
to the Contractor.
