LJ
October 1, 1969
CAS E NO:
APPLICANT:
LCCAT 10 N:
,
527-69
Ramsey County
Lexington Avenue from Larpentur ta Trunk Highway 36
ACTION REQlJESTED: Approval of Hiqhwny improvements Design
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS:
1. As requested by the Planning Commission, we have m,et with representatves
of the Ramsey County Highway Department to review suggestions to I imit
the extent of th proposed median strip development on Lexingtcn Auenue.
The initial propow( presented by Ramsey County suggests the developmnt of
a median strip continuously, exc:pt for public street crassings, from Larpenteur
to Highway 36. It would appear, from our discussions with lV1r. Floyd Snjiker,
the Assistant Highway Engineer, that the county woul'd be amenable to adustments
to I imit the extent of the median develpment. We have prepared overlays
which indicate hoHv this might be accomplishedcreatin5 the best conditions
to handle the traffic, and yet have minimal impact upon the residential develop-
ment north of the commercia' area on Lexington ,Avenue. lIr. Snykr will
be afi the Planning Commission meetingat which time we wil) discuss alternative
methods of reducing the median strip construction (and the cost). Based on
fihe traffic volumes involved in the turneng movements anci thraugh traffic, we
feel that the deveiopment af left-turn lanes with a 6 foot median in the commercial
area north of Larpenteur will be advantageo with the eliminafiion of ather
median strip development except at key intersections to the north.
