, It is quite likeiy that tHe era of larye ;cale housing projeCs without public
sewer and water is past. II indicatians are thot most future urban density
developments will be placed where utility service is available. This
 means that public policy with regards to utility nstallation can be used as
a ool to gvide urban growth both in terms of (ocation and rofie of develop-
ment.
u
_

In response ta utility needs generated by housing construction, the Village has
developed sanitary sewers in various ptrts of the Community. The enclosed
map shows existing sewer lines, 196b construction, scheduled 1967 canstruction,
and future needs.
Within the next twenty years, it is possible that all the Viilage wilf be provided
with trvnk sewers. Lateral sewers wiil be insta(ied only where development
generates the need, It is probable that the area north of C;ouniy Road Iad
east of Lexington Avenue will be developed last due to compaeatively poor soii
conditions. Mlost other areas in the Villaye can naw be provided sanitary sewer
service during the next ten years. The affect upon land development is iikely
to be that of increased building construction except in the northeastern portion
of the Community.
 Very few storm sewers have been deve loped in the Vi l(age . As development of
th Community continues, a complete storm drainage sysfiem will be required.
Whiie drainage problems are most acute in the northern portions of 4he Viilage,
 other areas will also experience problems in the future as surface water drainage
increases with new development.
i `

'
:,;

There are three primary sewer districts in the Village:
1. The South District including all of Shoreview south of fnterstate Freeway
No . bg4;
2. The Central District encompassing that area north of Interstate Freeway Na.
694 and south of an east-vest line through fhe midde of Tutle Lmke; and
3. The Narfih District `vhich lies north of the line through the middle of Turtle Lske.
Primary Village Plan Proposals for utilities are as follows:
1. A comprehensive enginering plan for water drainage is needed far use in
properly guiding new urban devefopment within the Village. All proposed
devslapments should be in accordance with said p4an.
55
