Bob Sherloc i
at additional signage for the Union 76 station at the northwest corner of
County Road B and Snelling. They have a 6'x12' Union 76 sign (7'L sq- f•)►
and want to add a 5'x10' price sign. This sign is located 6' from the building
right-of-way, and allows for a maximum of 64 sq. ft. Bob noted that they have
on the site a 4' x6' readerboard (wll mounted) , 2 16' x8° wall signs (Union) ,
 si s i 2'x5' price sign on pole, 1 6'xl2' identi--
2 2 a3 single-face canopy 5n ► si ns on canopy poles.
fication sign on 14' pole and 2 2'x6' milk and P an d i n f o r m e d them that the
We noted which of these signs are noncon forming,
addii:ional reacierboard sign, if pursued, would require a variance.
2) Krause - 636-4390. Brer►dt Krause is a builder, who proposes to put an
extension on a Cort building, directly east o.f the Red Lobster restauran:
This is a building that was built for retail sales, and has 13,420 o'ase
This building lines up with the restaurants on either side. TheY P P
to add a 2,000 sq. ft. addition on the front of the building, using "dEcorator"
concrete block. A variance to pazcing xequirements would be required. Brendt
noted the owners have been thinking of putting in a restaurant, which we
encourage strongly inasmuch as it is a better use for the land. We suggestd
the building protruding in front of the others could be a problem in site
plan approval, and that the adding of an addition with mate rials dissimilr
from the existing structure would Ue a major problem and a mistake.
3) Heikenen - 341-4444. Mr. Quertell, Robert Carrweredinetogdiscussbthe,
representing Hertz-Penske taheesoutheastcorner of Walnut and County
usE of Heikenen's p roperty
Road C for a Hertz truck rental operatioi. This is a si:e formerly
ope rated by Trans-America truck repair facilities. We discussed the
requirements for a special use permiL- for the site, inc].uding drainage,
curb requiremen•ts, parking lot surface, signage, and access to the public
street on th east side of the p roperty, which is the .former location o
Walnut Street. They came back a week later with revised pJ_ans, conforming
to the basic considerations we h ad outlinecl at the previous meting. They
will be applying for the special use permit for referral at the August 8th
meeting of the Council. It appears the proposl, if developed as planned,
will b workable, and will constitute a substantial improvement of the
appearance of the site.
j
