e ROSEVILLE PLANNING OFFICE HOURB 9,18/91
sign, which is approximately 6' x 12', that would mean a total sign
height of 38'. If the Commission and Council were to accept this
approach to signage for his site and grant a variance, these
dimensions would be reasonable ones to apply.
I also informed him of Councilmember Maschka's request for a
discussion among the various property owners in the area who are
faced with a similar situation, in order to see if there might be
a solution involving common signage instead of individual variances
(Rick Jopke is arranging that meeting). Mr. Platt said he would
participate in such a discussion, but didn't see a way it could be
easily resolved, or even whether all properties had the same
problem that he did.
For example, the Stuart Anderson Cattle Company sign is reasonably
visible already (albeit not placed according to the approved site
plan), Khan's Barbeque has a'window' of vfsibility between
Investors and the Olive Garden restaurant, and the carpet outlet
store may not have the same need for drive-by visibility.
Investors Savings, Olive Garden, and Roseville Community Bank are
nt hidden in the way Fuddruckers is, and probably would not be
willing to give up their current signage for common signage
• elsewhere.
3. Gary and Sue Cormican
The Cormicans live in a single family hame at the southwest corner
of County Road D and Evelyn Street. Their back yard, to the west
of the house, slopes quickly down and aay from the house into a
City drainage pond, leaving then, essentially, without a useable
back yard. They want to fEnce a portion of their yard for their
large dog to run in, and are left with the yar3 facing County Road
D as the only reasonable option. They came in to discuss a
possible variance in order to build a 6' cyclone fence (taller than
the 4' alloweu within the 30' setback to County Road D.
We explained the ration,le for the fence seback within the overall
yard requirements and uied them to cansider building aence some
distance back from the lot line to allow some visual relief, and
to add some evergreen landscaping in front of the fenc instead oP
the colored slats in the fce that they were proposing.
It ws agreed that they will apply Por a variance leaving at least
10' of setback from th fence to County Road D and 25' to velyn
(the exiting front stck), both frontages to be landscaped wih
evergreen trees to provide reasonable screen'ng of the fenced area.
