•
•
 6 •
Planning Off ice Hours, April 30, 198
Page 4
9. Federal Express
Danny Dean, Heather Paiper, and Pete Gerzen, representing
Federal Express Company, were in to discuss a proposal to
build a business service center near the Fastbank site at
the northwest corner of Highway 36 and Fairview Avenue.
They propose a 6 x 10 structure on a concrete pad, to
function as a drop-off for Federal Express packages. They
note that Federal Express does sixty-three percent of the
overnight express business in the country, delivering
670,000 packages per night. They do this by running fifty-
six 727's and eleven DC-10's in and out of Memphis,
Tennessee every night, and back to their respective cities
for delivery the following day.
Their building included a proposal for an antenna addition
on the top on which a sign was printed. We noted that signs
are not permitted on a roof structure, and that the antenna
would not be approved on the roof of this small structure.
We also suggested the signs be simplified to improve the
appearance of the structure.
We noted the need to have an analysis of the parking as
relates to the shopping center square footage, so as to
ascertain the adequacy of the remaining parking.
10. Westbv, 484-6784
Jim and Gail Westby live at 480 Lovell. Gail is the daughter
of Ken Fabynski, now residing in the f amil home. They
propose to purchase the property directly north of the
church, which at one time was redeveloped for a funeral
home. ,This lot is directly south of the cul-de-sac on
Lovell, and was oriqinally proposed to be two lots. The
width is 170 feet, and would appear easily divisible.
They're considerinq the possibility of appying for a duplex
construction on the westerly most lot. This lot would be
bounded on the west by the school property, the church at
the south, and their second lot to the east.
We suggested that this procedure could be followed by
developing a plan for the site, showing how the duplex would
work on the site. We suggested they discuss this with the
neighbors in the area before proceeding with such a
proposal. We noted the Council's policy to allow duplexes
throughout the City as alternative housing sites, where
conditions warranted.
11. Halverson. 464-298_5
C, W. (Boots) Halverson, his wife Pat, Steve Saunders, his
wife Patty, and Steve Saunders, Jr., were in to discuss
redevelopment of the McDonald's site on the west side of
Snelling Avenue Service Road. Steve Saunders wants to
develop a Kentucky Fried Chicken structure on this site
(northeast corner) which would be leased by him from C. W.
Halverson.
