;J

•

November 19, 1986
TO: Jim Andre
FROM:
SUBJECT:
Howard Dahlgren

PLANNING OFFICE HOURS, NOVEMBER 12, 1986
1. Lynch, 546-8410
Brian Lynch is the Franchise Development Manager for "Tires
Plus" Auto Service Centers, one of which will be loated at
the northeast corner of Hamline and Larpenteur. They built
tre building without making provision for storage of old
tires, and now propose to build a solid wood fence enclosure
on the westerly side of trie site to include space for their
outside dumpster. He presented a plan showing the proposed
location, dimensions, and details for the proposed structure.
I recommended that the fence be 2 x 6 treated lumber with 6 x
6 posts. The fence will run for twenty-one feet along the
edge of the building, with a pair of gates accessible from
the handicapped parking space. This will require a Scial
Use Permit tfor exterior storage) and a variance to fence
height (six feet rather than four feet).
2. Grace Church, 633-6479
Dave Sulack is an Adult Minister with Grace Church, which was
initially a mission church out of Grace Church of Edina.
This church started with fifty members in 1981, having bought
the church and site f rom the Emmanuel Gommunity Church. They
are growing xapidly, and are acquiring the single family
homes in the immediate area, of which they now own all but
one. They have a purchase agreement on the last hous@ to the
south of the existing house which they are now using for
Sunday School purposes.
His visit related to the possible use of a 21 x 24 foot
exis+cing garage for Sunday School purposes. I reviwed the
building code requirements with Gordy Beseth, the bottom line
bei.ng that use of the garage for this purpose would likely
not be realistic in terms of the overall investment needed to
conform. The church has plans for continued expansion, and
is currently handling its growth with multiple services.
3. Long Cadillac, 636-6060
Dick Long was in to review, with the staff, his plans for
taking on the new "Sterling" line of luxury sports sedans
being manufactured by Austin/Rover Automobile Company out of
Cawley, England (near London). Mr.
automobile dealership is offered
primarily cadillac dealers around the
have six cylinder engines (24 valves)
of $25,000.00.
Long tells us that his
to a select list of
country.
