Human Rights Commission <br />Human Rights Minutes <br />March 16, 2016 6:00 p.m. <br />Commissioners: Chair Wayne Groff, Molli Slade, and Lisa Carey <br />Youth Commissioners: Gabriel Cederberg <br />Commissioners Absent: Arlene Christiansen <br />Staff Present: Kari Collins <br />Call to Order <br />The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Chair <br />Groff 14 requested roll call. <br />Approve Agenda <br />Commissioner Slade moved and Commissioner Carey seconded a motion to <br />approve the 19 agenda as presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Public Comment on Items Not on Agenda <br />There being no one wishing to address the Human Rights Commission, Chair Groff <br />moved to the next agenda item. <br />Old Business <br />a. Essay Contest <br />Commissioner Carey suggested making the essay known in the schools but not make <br />it mandatory assignment. <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated when he had been eligible for the Essay <br />Contest the assignment had been mandatory but the submission to the Essay <br />Contest itself had been optional. <br />Commissioner Slade agreed that they could ask that the assignment be mandatory <br />but the submission to the Essay Contest could be optional. <br />Ms. Collins stated the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) sponsor an <br />essay contest each year. They do this as an assignment and thee teachers would <br />nominate the top three from each class. <br />Chair Groff suggested continuing this discussion when there is a full Commission. <br />b. Discuss 'Forward Into Light' Film Viewing at Ramsey County Library <br />Chair Groff stated the film 'Forward Into Light' would tie into the Commission Essay <br />theme of voting and voting rights and is scheduled for August 18. The Roseville HRC <br />would be helping to promote this event. <br />c. Discuss 2nd Chance Coalition <br />
