<br /> <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 20, 2016 <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioners: Chair Wayne Groff, Lisa Carey, Arlene Christiansen, Nicole Dailey, <br />Edward Johnson, Lauren Peterson and Molli Slade <br /> <br />Youth Commissioners: Gabriel Cederberg <br /> <br />Commissioners Absent: None <br /> <br />Staff Present: Carolyn Curti <br /> <br />Call to Order <br /> <br />The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Chair Groff <br />requested roll call. <br /> <br />Swearing in New Commissioners <br /> <br />Chair Groff swore in new Human Rights Commissioners Edward Johnson, Lauren Peterson, <br />and Nicole Dailey. <br /> <br />Approve Agenda <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade suggested moving the presentation for Item 7.d Second Chance <br />Coalition before the Approval of the Minutes. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade moved and Commissioner Christiansen seconded a motion to <br />approve the agenda as amended. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />New Business <br /> <br /> d.) Second Chance Coalition <br /> <br />Ms. Natasha Lapcinski, Second Chance Coalition, reviewed the history of the Coalition and <br />the Day on the Hill Event. She explained Second Chance advocates for fair and responsible <br />laws that allow those who have committed crimes to redeem themselves and drug <br />sentencing reform. They are supporting other organizations to provide guidelines and <br />training for School Resource Officers (SRO). Human Rights is tied closely to what the <br />Coalition stands for and works to improve including the right to vote for those who have <br />committed a crime and served their sentence. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade asked what Ms. Lapcinski would recommend as a way to get the word <br />out about the Coalition and what they are working on. <br /> <br />Ms. Lapcinski stated community conversations and dialogues helps to educate the <br />community and encourages people to contact their legislatures. She would recommend <br />having Jason Sole speak at a community event. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
