<br />Youth Commissioner Report <br /> <br /> <br />a.Suggestions for Summer Book to Read <br />th <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated he would use the incoming 12 grade reading list and the <br />choices would be The Left Hand of Darkness, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and Arab in <br />America. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated she would like to see them read Arab in America. <br /> <br />It was the consensus of the Commission to use the Arab in America as the book for the Summer <br />Book Read program. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated he would work on promoting the event and reserving the <br />space at the Library for the Book Club discussions. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Johnson to approve a <br />budget not to exceed $100 for the Summer Book Read book club meetings. The motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade requested Youth Commissioner Hansel to bring back ideas on how the <br />Human Rights Commission and the Human Rights Club at the high school could work together <br />and what the Club has been working on. <br /> <br />Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br />a.Finance Update and Discussion <br />Ms. Curti reviewed the HRC budget and budgeted expenditures. <br /> <br /> <br />b.Calendar of Events <br />Ms. Curti reviewed the calendar of events for the Human Rights Commission. <br /> <br />Future Agenda Items <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the June agenda would include discussions on any larger events the <br />Commission would like to work on for the fall and he asked Commissioners to put together ideas <br />including a potential event with NAMI. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson stated the majority of people that cross the intersection at Lexington and <br />Larpenteur are seniors. Several of these people are not able to get across the street prior to the <br />light changing. He asked who they would contact in order to get the timing of this light extended <br />or have a pedestrian crossing light added. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the stop lights are controlled by Ramsey County and she would take this <br />concern to the Traffic Committee and have them look into it. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br /> <br /> <br />
