Mr. Trudgeon stated the staff has also discussed what the City could do. He suggested the City
organize discussions so that each Commission or group is not doing something different. He
recommended putting together a working group with members from other Commissions and
staff.

Chair Groff encouraged the City to move expediently because this is a topic that is something
residents are concerned about now. He recommended panel members share personal experiences
because people remember these more than statistics.

Commissioner Carey asked if the City was working on a project and what the next steps should
be.

Mr. Trudgeon suggested forming a working group and request interested members from Staff,
City Council, and other Commissions to join to organize a City event. He would be the point
person for the working group. He asked what members of the HRC would like to volunteer to
participate in the working group.

Commissioner Slade, Commissioner Peterson and Commissioner Carey volunteered to work
with City Manager Trudgeon on forming a working group to organize a City event in response to
recent events in Falcon Heights.

Chair’s Report

Chair Groff stated the HRC stood out in the parade and he would like to build on this for next
year’s event.

Youth Commissioner Report

Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated the book club meetings had gone well. He had received a
grant for a soccer camp through his Church and there were 53 attendees at the event.

Staff Report

Mr. Trudgeon provided a draft for the Human Rights Award poster for the Commission to
review.

Chair Groff stated he would forward the information to Commissioner Dailey. He stated the
Votes for Women Film Festival was scheduled for August 18 at the Ramsey County Library.

Future Agenda Items

Chair Groff stated before next meeting Commissioners Slade, Carey, and Peterson would meet
with Mr. Trudgeon and provide a report for the next meeting. Commissioner Dailey would
provide an update on the Human Rights Award at the next meeting and review of the Invisible
Disability article by Youth Commissioner Hansel. The next meeting would also include an
update on the essay contest.
