Commissioner Carey stated the Commission had previously received information on the <br />demographics in the school. She asked when the updated information would be available for the <br />Commission. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated she had previously found this information on the School District <br />website. <br /> <br />Mr. Trudgeon stated staff would contact the schools for this information. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the Commission should consider goals for the next year. There Commission <br />has several activities in place currently including the mental health forum in the fall, the essay <br />contest and the naturalization ceremony. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel presented a proposal for invisible disabilities including a <br />background and potential actions for the Commission such as designating more handicapped <br />parking for special events in the City. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated this would be something that would fit into the Commissions education scope. <br />He suggested Youth Commissioner Hansel work on an article that could be put in the newspaper. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey suggested contacting the Library to have an article in their newsletter. <br /> <br />New Business <br /> <br /> <br />a.Community Dialogue <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey stated several individuals and groups have asked if the City or the <br />Commission would do something in response to the recent shooting in Falcon Heights and the <br />aftermath. Surrounding communities are starting discussions with residents. She recommended <br />hosting a panel of individuals willing to discuss their experiences and personal take on the <br />situation. There is an opportunity for forums or discussions. <br /> <br />Commissioner Peterson stated a panel session would be a good start but she would recommend a <br />series of discussions. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated the main channels of communication does not reach everyone. She <br />suggested outreach to other organizations such as churches, food shelves, and halfway homes. <br />This will engage more of the community. She stated she would be available to assist with <br />organizing a dialogue. <br /> <br />Commissioner Peterson stated Neighborhoods Organizing Change may have some ideas the <br />Commission could use. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade suggested looking more community based because Neighborhoods <br />Organizing Change are focused on North Minneapolis. <br /> <br /> <br />
