Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />December 9, 2015 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 2 of 6 <br />47 <br />a.Discuss Film Screening on Martin Luther King Day at Roseville Library <br />48 <br />49 <br />Chair Groff stated Youth Commissioner Cederberg would be contacting the Roseville Library <br />50 <br />and he would provide an update. <br />51 <br />52 <br />b.Update on the Essay Contest <br />53 <br />54 <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated she had talked to Mary Zakaras and introduced herself. Ms. <br />55 <br />Zakaras suggested having all the essays sent to her and have them all in one place for pickup. <br />56 <br />She also sent out the electronic packet and she would follow up with the schools. <br />57 <br />58 <br />Ms. Collins stated Ms. Zakaras could collect the essays and she would pick them up from her. <br />59 <br />60 <br />Commissioner Carey asked how they were contacting students that were not participating in <br />61 <br />those classes that had voting rights as part of their curriculum. <br />62 <br />63 <br /> Commissioner Christiansen stated Ms. Zakaras would be following up with the schools and <br />64 <br />sending the information to the principals so they can forward the information to all teachers to <br />65 <br />ensure all the students are able to participate. The information would also be on the school <br />66 <br />websites and the information would be in the school bulletins. <br />67 <br />68 <br />69 <br />New Business <br />70 <br />71 <br />a.Report on Recent Community Events/Review of Upcoming Events <br />72 <br />73 <br />Commissioner Slade stated December 10 was Human Rights Day and commemorates December <br />74 <br />10, 1948, the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of <br />75 <br />Human Rights. <br />76 <br />77 <br />Commissioner Christiansen asked if the City could put this on the website. <br />78 <br />79 <br />Ms. Collins stated the City would try to do this and also send a tweet. <br />80 <br />81 <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated the Shop with a Cop event was December 9. <br />82 <br />83 <br />b.Review Human Rights Commission, ‘Scope, Duties and Function’ in City Code and <br />84 <br />Review City Council Discussion from November 30 <br />85 <br />86 <br />Commissioner Christiansen asked if the Council direction was to have the Commission to <br />87 <br />determine what their mission would be. Things have evolved since the inception of the <br />88 <br />Commission and the Council had stated the current Commission is a group of doers. <br />89 <br />90 <br /> <br />
