Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />January 20, 2016 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 7 of 9 <br />Ms. Collins suggested the Commission let the City Council know what activities they have <br />269 <br />planned for 2016 and verify these are things they want the Commission to continue with. <br />270 <br />271 <br />Chair Groff suggested the Commission discuss the HRC Award at the April meeting. <br />272 <br />273 <br />274 <br />Chair’s Report <br />275 <br />276 <br />Chair Groff stated he would not be at the February meeting unless they were able to change the <br />277 <br />date. <br />278 <br />279 <br />280 <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br />281 <br />282 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated he had contacted Marcus Lawry regarding availability for <br />283 <br />2016 book club meetings. He asked if the Commission was interested in doing a Summer Book <br />284 <br />Read this year. <br />285 <br />286 <br />It was the consensus of the Commission to have Youth Commissioner Cederberg proceed with a <br />287 <br />2016 Summer Book Read program. <br />288 <br />289 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated he had talked to Judy Woodward in regards to the <br />290 <br />showing of “America’s Civil Rights Movement - A Time for Justice”. She has stated in order for <br />291 <br />the event to be sponsored by the Library and have access to the Library’s meeting space the <br />292 <br />event would have to be held after May 1 and available Monday through Thursday. <br />293 <br />294 <br />Commissioner Christiansen suggested scheduling this later in the year so that the new <br />295 <br />Commissioners would have an opportunity to get involved. <br />296 <br />297 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated they would have to begin working on finding a speaker <br />298 <br />for the event. Ms. Woodward had stated if the Commission did not want to use their budget for <br />299 <br />the event they could do the event at the end of June. <br />300 <br />301 <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated J.B. Anderson would be doing a presentation called <br />302 <br />“President’s Day Uncovered” on Wednesday, January 27. She suggested they contact him to be <br />303 <br />a speaker. <br />304 <br />305 <br />Chair Groff stated they would need to find out what his fee would be. <br />306 <br />307 <br />Ms. Collins suggested the Commission consider having a theme or focus for their activities in <br />308 <br />2016. She stated the Shoreview Commission had voted against doing this event. <br />309 <br />310 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated that Ms. Woodward had mentioned when they schedule <br />311 <br />these events it is usually on a specific day that means something to the community. <br />312 <br />313 <br /> <br />
