Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 24, 2016 Draft Minutes <br />Page 10of 11 <br /> <br />The Commission does need a date decided and submitted to the Library by the end of February if <br />404 <br />they would like to have the event in May. <br />405 <br /> <br />406 <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated the Essay Contest winners would be recognized at a City <br />407 <br />Council in May. <br />408 <br /> <br />409 <br />Chair Groff suggested Youth Commissioner Cederberg work with the Library to find a date in <br />410 <br />May that works but they would have to vote on paying any fees for the speaker. <br />411 <br /> <br />412 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated they only need to set a date at this time and they could <br />413 <br />discuss the speaker and any potential fees at the next meeting. <br />414 <br /> <br />415 <br />Chair Groff suggested scheduling the movie showing from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. since it would <br />416 <br />be on a weeknight. <br />417 <br /> <br />418 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated the reading list has not been finalized for the Summer <br />419 <br />Book Read. Marcus Laurey stated there may be someone willing to fund the purchase of the <br />420 <br />books and helping to bring in the author. <br />421 <br /> <br />422 <br />Commissioner Carey asked if the Summer Read would be open to all residents or just High <br />423 <br />School students. <br />424 <br /> <br />425 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg suggested opening the program to residents. <br />426 <br /> <br />427 <br />It was the consensus of the Commission to direct Youth Commissioner Cederberg to work on <br />428 <br />establishing three (3) dates for the Summer Book Club meetings. <br />429 <br /> <br />430 <br />Staff Report <br />431 <br /> <br />432 <br /> <br />a.Finance Update and Discussion <br />433 <br /> <br />434 <br />Ms. Collins <br />435 <br />Commission discuss the HRC Award, the Rosefest Parade, the movie screenings, and the book <br />436 <br />club to determine the funds that should be allocated to these projects. <br />437 <br /> <br />438 <br />Commissioner Christiansen asked if the Commission would be doing a separate ceremony for <br />439 <br />the Essay Contest winners or if they would only have the presentation at the City Council <br />440 <br />meeting. <br />441 <br /> <br />442 <br />Ms. Collins stated the Commission would have a reception prior to the City Council meeting for <br />443 <br />the winners. The reception has not been budgeted for. <br />444 <br /> <br />445 <br />It was the consensus of the Commissioner to budget $250 for the Essay Contest reception to be <br />446 <br />held prior to the City Council meeting. <br />447 <br /> <br />448 <br /> <br /> <br />
