May 18, 2016 Item 4 Approve Minutes Human Rights Commission 1 Meeting Minutes 2 DRAFT –April 20, 2016-DRAFT 3 4 5 Commissioners: Chair Wayne Groff,Lisa Carey, Arlene Christiansen, Nicole Dailey, 6 Edward Johnson, Lauren PetersonandMolli Slade 7 8 Youth Commissioners: Gabriel Cederberg 9 10 Commissioners Absent: None. 11 12 Staff Present: Carolyn Curti 13 14 Call to Order 15 16 The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:00p.m. Chair Groff 17 requested roll call. 18 19 Swearing in New Commissioners 20 21 Chair Groff swore in new Human Rights Commissioners Edward Johnson, Lauren Peterson, and 22 Nicole Dailey. 23 24 Approve Agenda 25 26 Commissioner Slade suggested moving the presentation for Item 7.dSecond Chance Coalition 27 before the Approval of the Minutes. 28 29 Commissioner Slademoved and Commissioner Christiansenseconded a motion to approve 30 the agenda as amended. Motion passed unanimously. 31 32 New Business 33 34 d.) Second Chance Coalition 35 36 Ms. Natasha Lapcinski, Second Chance Coalition, reviewed the history of the Coalitionand the 37 Day on the Hill Event.She explained Second Chance advocates for fair and responsible laws that 38 allow those who have committed crimes to redeem themselves and drug sentencing reform. 39 They are supporting other organizations to provide guidelines and training for School Resource 40 Officers (SRO). Human Rights is tied closely to what the Coalition stands for and works to 41 improve including the right to vote for those who have committed a crime and served their 42 sentence. 43 44 Commissioner Slade asked what Ms. Lapcinski would recommend as a way to get the word out 45 about the Coalition and what they are working on. 46
