May 18, 2016 <br />Item 4 <br />Approve Minutes <br />Human Rights Commission <br />1 <br />Meeting Minutes <br />2 <br />DRAFT –April 20, 2016-DRAFT <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />Commissioners: <br />Chair Wayne Groff,Lisa Carey, Arlene Christiansen, Nicole Dailey, <br />6 <br />Edward Johnson, Lauren PetersonandMolli Slade <br />7 <br />8 <br />Youth Commissioners: <br />Gabriel Cederberg <br />9 <br />10 <br />Commissioners Absent: <br />None. <br />11 <br />12 <br />Staff Present: <br />Carolyn Curti <br />13 <br />14 <br />Call to Order <br />15 <br />16 <br />The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:00p.m. Chair Groff <br />17 <br />requested roll call. <br />18 <br />19 <br />Swearing in New Commissioners <br />20 <br />21 <br />Chair Groff swore in new Human Rights Commissioners Edward Johnson, Lauren Peterson, and <br />22 <br />Nicole Dailey. <br />23 <br />24 <br />Approve Agenda <br />25 <br />26 <br />Commissioner Slade suggested moving the presentation for Item 7.dSecond Chance Coalition <br />27 <br />before the Approval of the Minutes. <br />28 <br />29 <br />Commissioner Slademoved and Commissioner Christiansenseconded a motion to approve <br />30 <br />the agenda as amended. Motion passed unanimously. <br />31 <br />32 <br />New Business <br />33 <br />34 <br />d.) Second Chance Coalition <br />35 <br />36 <br />Ms. Natasha Lapcinski, Second Chance Coalition, reviewed the history of the Coalitionand the <br />37 <br />Day on the Hill Event.She explained Second Chance advocates for fair and responsible laws that <br />38 <br />allow those who have committed crimes to redeem themselves and drug sentencing reform. <br />39 <br />They are supporting other organizations to provide guidelines and training for School Resource <br />40 <br />Officers (SRO). Human Rights is tied closely to what the Coalition stands for and works to <br />41 <br />improve including the right to vote for those who have committed a crime and served their <br />42 <br />sentence. <br />43 <br />44 <br />Commissioner Slade asked what Ms. Lapcinski would recommend as a way to get the word out <br />45 <br />about the Coalition and what they are working on. <br />46 <br /> <br />
