Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />July 20, 2016 Draft Minutes <br />Page 2of 5 <br /> <br /> <br />a.Receive Advocates for Human Rights Report <br />45 <br /> <br />46 <br />Chair Groff provided the Commission with a report from the Advocates for Human Rights on the <br />47 <br />. He reviewed the <br />48 <br />results of these dialogues including concerns about maintaining locks for buildings, more <br />49 <br />affordable housing, schools, and transportation. <br />50 <br /> <br />51 <br />Mr. Trudgeon stated the KOM community felt welcomed and safe in Roseville. He stated the <br />52 <br />City does inspections for the rental properties as part of the rental licensing program. <br />53 <br /> <br />54 <br />Chair Groff stated the Advocates for Human Rights would like to see these dialogues continue <br />55 <br /> <br />56 <br /> <br />57 <br />Mr. Trudgeon stated some of the programs the City had been working on as a result of similar <br />58 <br />community dialogues included the community gardens and the rights video. The City is <br />59 <br />also looking at a potential park in the same neighborhood as the apartments and youth recreation <br />60 <br />programs in southeast Roseville. <br />61 <br /> <br />62 <br />Commissioner Carey moved and Commissioner Slade seconded a motion to Receive the <br />63 <br />Advocates for Human Rights Report and Present the Report to the City Council. Motion <br />64 <br />passed unanimously. <br />65 <br /> <br />66 <br /> <br />b.Consider 2016/17 Middle School Essay Contest Question <br />67 <br /> <br />68 <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg presented two questions for the Commission to consider for the <br />69 <br />Middle School Essay Contest. <br />70 <br /> <br />71 <br />Commissioner Slade stated she liked the idea of having an action in the essay and challenging <br />72 <br />the respondents. <br />73 <br /> <br />74 <br />Commissioner Carey suggested adding an action to the Question 1 regarding prejudice and <br />75 <br />stereotypes. <br />76 <br /> <br />77 <br />It was the consensus of the Commission to use the following question for the 2016/17 Middle <br />78 <br />School Essay Contest: Prejudice and stereotypes affect the way we perceive and interact with <br />79 <br />each other, even wheealize it. How so stereotypes affect our society and how do they <br />80 <br />damage human right? Where in your life have you seen prejudice and/or stereotypes, and how <br />81 <br />has seeing/experiencing that affected you personally? What Action can you take regarding this <br />82 <br />witnessed or experienced prejudice and/or stereotype? <br />83 <br /> <br />84 <br />Chair Groff stated they would use the same timeline for the contest. <br />85 <br /> <br />86 <br /> <br />c.Review Human Rights Commission Code and Setting Goals for the upcoming year <br />87 <br /> <br />88 <br /> <br />
