Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />October 21, 2015 <br />Page 6 of 7 <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey stated if the Commission is not getting the value out that they put in then <br />they should not continue being members. <br /> <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated their time might be better spent working with the State Human <br />Rights Commission. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the Commission could choose not to be members this year and if the League <br />becomes more effective the Commission could rejoin at that time. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade moved and Commissioner Christiansen seconded a motion to suspend <br />membership to the Minnesota League of Human Rights Commissions for the year 2016. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey stated she would like to revisit this suspension next year. She would like to <br />keep communications open because they may be able to support the Commission’s efforts in the <br />future. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade amended the motion and Commissioner Christiansen seconded the <br />amendment to include revisiting the suspension of the Commission’s membership and the <br />Organization for 2017. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />Chair’s Report <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated he had some discussions about the joint meeting with the City Council. He <br />reiterated his desire to fill all the open Commission seats. The HRC is not on the City’s agenda <br />at this time. <br /> <br />Ms. Collins stated the City Council would have a discussion on November 16 about all of the <br />Commissions and if the City would want to or need to make changes to any of these <br />Commissions. <br /> <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br /> <br />Commissioner Cederberg stated the Book Club had gone good. There were 10 students at the <br />discussions. He would like to do this again next summer. <br /> <br /> <br />Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br />a.Finance Update and Discussion <br /> <br />Ms. Collins reviewed the budget including current expenditures and budgeted items. She stated <br />the Commission has a remaining balance of $1000 but this could go back to the City’s General <br />Fund since the City did provide the $2000 funding for the Civility Training. <br /> <br />
