The goal would be toconduct two Retentionvisits a week, allowing for up to 120
76
Retentionvisits by the end of 2017. The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and local chambers will
77
provide a list of their members in Roseville and will be invited to accompany Staff on business
78
visits.
79
80
The focus in this first year of the program will be on biomedicalfirms, manufacturing businesses,
81
and businesses that we haven’t yet been able to categorize. We are suggesting this focus for the
82
following reasons:
83
84
The biomedical industry has been identified by GreaterMSP as a fast growing industry that is
85
criticalto the economic success of the region. GreaterMSP is currently visiting biomedical
86
manufactures in the Twin Cities area. Including biomedicalindustry in businesses will help
87
to strengthen the existing partnership between GreaterMSP and Roseville EDA.
88
Manufacturing businesses generally provide high wages and have the capacity to grow and
89
expand. Ensuring existing businesses have the resources they need to grow is key to local
90
economic success.
91
Classifying all industry types for businesses is a key priority through the end of 2017.
92
Categorizing all businesses will yield a final industry mix withinRoseville. The “Not Yet
93
Categorized”classification includes home-based businesses that may receive a phone call
94
rather than an in-person visit.
95
Business Industry# of Businesses in RosevillePartnership
Biomedical23GreaterMSP
Manufacturing49State and local chambers of commerce
Not Yet Categorized50State and local chambers of commerce
Total122
96
BUDGET IMPLICATIONS
97
Staff time will be the primary cost of the program. In addition to the time to conduct the business
98
visits, Staff time will be needed to arrange visits, enter data gathered at the visits into the database,
99
and update the database throughout the year.
100
101
Page 3of 4
