Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />September 21, 2016 Minutes <br />Page 3 of 5 <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioner Peterson stated they were completing reference checks and would bring <br />additional information to the next meeting. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the presentation would probably be in November and she would get the <br />presentation on the City Council’s agenda. <br /> <br />New Business <br /> <br /> <br />a.Prepare for meeting with Council on October 10 <br /> <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated they would review what the Commission had done over the past year with the <br />City Council on October 10. He asked Ms. Curti to provide the number of participants in the <br />essay contest because this was greater than it had been the previous year. Other highlights that <br />would be discussed included the Naturalization Ceremony, the Karen Community dialogues, co- <br />sponsorship of the film “Women Voter Forward into Light”, participation in the Rose Parade, <br />HRC award, the appointment of four new Commissioners and a Youth Commissioner, and <br />community conversations. He stated if Youth Commissioner Cederberg is in attendance he <br />could review the Summer Book Read for the Council. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated they could also review the Youth Mental Health community <br />conversation and the Imaging Roseville community conversation. <br /> <br />Commissioner Dailey suggested including the article written by Youth Commissioner Hansel for <br />the Council to review. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the Council had requested the Commission look at organizing a cultural <br />festival and the Commission had not been able to work on it because they did not have a full <br />Commission. He suggested the Commission begin to think about this type of project and if it <br />were something the Commissioner could do. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated this may work off the Imagine Roseville community dialogue. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the High School has several cultural events and she suggested working with <br />them on this type of project. <br /> <br />Chair Groff asked each Commissioner be prepared to speak on the projects they had worked on. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade suggested Youth Commissioner Hansel also discuss the Teen for Human <br />Rights group she organized at the High School. <br /> <br /> <br />b.Consider Co-sponsorship of Video: Race – The Power of an Illusion: The Genesis of <br />Discriminatory Housing Policies www.newsreel.org/nav/title.asp?tc=cn0149 <br /> <br /> <br />
