Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />September 21, 2016 Minutes <br />Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the “Race – Power of an Illusion” is a 3-part video series. The Library would <br />co-sponsor the event and a facilitator would guide a discussion following the showing. He asked <br />if this would be something the Commission would want to pursue. <br /> <br />Commissioner Dailey stated this would fit in with the overall idea the Commission has been <br />working on this year. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated this would be an important topic in Roseville. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the Library would assist with locating a facilitator for the 3 showings. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti clarified the Commissions role would be to promote the event, assist with locating a <br />facilitator and possibly assist in the rental or licensing of the films. <br /> <br />Commissioner Peterson moved and Commissioner Dailey seconded a motion to Co-Sponsor <br />the 3-part video showing of “Race – The Power of an Illusion”. The motion passed <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Chair’s Report <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated NAMI was having a fundraising walk on September 24. He stated he had <br />talked with several members of the community about the shooting in Falcon Heights and they are <br />glad to see the City is pursuing a community dialogue to be proactive. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel stated the Teens for Human Rights group would be starting on <br />October 4 at the High School. Last year the group had worked on getting informational posters <br />for sexual assaults and these will be placed in the main areas of the school. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade asked if Youth Commissioner Hansel promoted the High School group as <br />being associated with the Commission. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel stated the group would be open to working on projects with the <br />HRC. <br /> <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the Commission has about $1500 remaining in their budget for HRC activities <br />for 2016. She stated she had forwarded an email to the Commission inviting them to participate <br />in Planning a Resilient City as part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan workshop. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated this would be good to attend to understand the long range vision of the City <br />and the changing demographics. <br /> <br /> <br />
