Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />November 16, 2016 – Minutes <br />Page 4 of 6 <br /> <br />Mr. Trudgeon stated the Commission does have a budget for programming and this would be an <br />appropriate program. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey moved and Commissioner Peterson seconded a motion to co-sponsor <br />the One World Multicultural Festival and provide financial assistance up to $150. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey asked when the Naturalization Ceremony would be in 2017. <br /> <br />Mr. Trudgeon stated this has been in April in the past and staff would contact immigration and <br />determine dates for this event. <br /> <br /> <br />d.Collaboration with Ramsey County Library showing of Race: The Power of an <br />Illusion <br /> <br />Chair Groff asked if the dates had been determined for this event. <br /> <br />Mr. Trudgen provided a schedule of events at the Library and the showing was not listed. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey stated she would contact the Library and work on setting up dates for this <br />event. <br /> <br />New Business <br /> <br /> <br />a.Elect Chair and Vice Chair <br /> <br /> <br />b.Potential discussion on Housing in Roseville <br /> <br />Chair’s Report <br />Commissioner Peterson asked if there was something more the Commission needed to do at this <br />time for the essay contest. <br /> <br />Mr. Trudgeon stated the essays are due January 31 and the Commission would be reviewing <br />them at their February meeting. <br /> <br />Chair Groff asked how the essays would be scored. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey stated the Commission should assume that there would be a large number <br />of respondents. She suggested a Sub-Committee be formed and they review all of the essays and <br />bring the top essays to the full Commission for review. She stated the Commission could use the <br />rubric from last year and make necessary changes to be specific to this year’s question. <br /> <br />Chair Groff asked for volunteers for the Sub-Committee. He stated he would volunteer. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel stated she would volunteer for the Sub-Committee. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
