Collector roadways are designed to <br />serve shorter trips that can reasonably be completed <br />without utilizing roads with a higher classification, <br />and to move traffic from local neighborhoods to <br />roadways of higher classification. Collectors also <br />provide supplementary interconnections of major <br />traffic generators within the metro centers and regional <br />business concentrations. Mobility and access are equally <br />important. Collector roadways are typically spaced at <br />one-half mile intervals within developed areas. Collector <br />roadways are summarized in Table 5.7. <br />Local Streets <br />The local street network provides the most access <br />and the least mobility within the overall functional <br />classification system. Local streets provide access to <br />individual homes and businesses, but are not intended <br />to efficiently accommodate through traffic.
