rn it May Conceal:
been a Missouri State licensed veterinarian since May of 1991 and have continually practiced at Red Barn Veterinary
s in Shelbina,Missouri since July 3'x",1991 having originated this multispecies practice with my associate Debra Mayes,
v pile we worked to establish a mixed practice,we reached out to the many Missouri State licensed professional kennels
tea to offer them quality medical and surgical programs.Over this period of time our practice grew because of our
on with these kennel owners not just in revenue but in the experience that our kennel owners shared with us with the
s to the raising, care and unique situations that can occur with the many breeds of dogs that we have seen brought into
nem and on our on-site kennel visits. The types of cases and the high volume of dogs seen of various ages, both male
nale along with breed differences has prepared us to become better veterinarians due to increased experience. That
nce has added to our knowledge base which has been utilized when working with the general public on a one on one
-d also during our times of speaking in front of the general public for various seminars that we have presented over the
practice has seen a vast increase in the management skills of our kennel clients as we have seen a concern among the
population with regard to the care of kennel dogs. Our clients have followed a recommended medical program of
tative medicine that we have custom designed and that has drastically reduced many of the diseases once seen such as
„irus, bordetella(kennei cough)and even a reduction of common genetic abnormalities such as heart murmurs,
nder bites and hernias.Their kennel success has been seen through the demand of the public for their healthy puppies
erebred and cross bred.It is the demand of the public for certain breeds of dogs that make good pets for their particular
sersonai well being and often times their living arrangement. Many of our kennel owners breed for certain traits that
togs not only healthier but also in an effort to influence good behavior and intelligence characteristics through good
ng choices. The golden doodle is a prime example of breeding a dog that has less of a tendency to shed their hair making
;tom breed a better choice for those individuals with allergy issue to canine hair.We have clients who own this particular
`.r this reason. There are also certain breeds that we see bred for service dogs as in those for the blind, drug task force
e enforcement and disorders such as epilepsy and autism spectrum disorder to name a few. Many of these dogs are
out at a very young age to train for these special tasks.
-practice has provided the pound services for most of the towns in our home county and we have an excellent record of
=uniting owners with their lost pets and adoption of those that go unclaimed. We are very careful in our adoption
s to make sure that the animals are healthy before adoption and a suitable match with regard to behavior.
regard to ending pet stores and their sale of puppies from licensed kennels,I would like to point out that we still five in
i ited State of America.I remember well the first purebred dachshund puppy that my Grandmother purchased for me.It
perfect match. An overbite didn't prevent my dog from having a long life of 14 years nor did it affect my love for her.I
d a dachshund.I've always had dachshunds as they are my favorite breed and the favored breed of our family even
n we also have Australian shepherds that we use on our cattle farm.To end licensed kennels would be a disservice to the
:an public and in my opinion goes against the very fabric of what our United State Constitution stands for in its written
Ili nd meaning. The current propaganda being used by certain groups to promote an agenda of canine population is false
ally when many of these groups travel overseas to foreign countries bringing back dogs into our country for adoption.
this happening and what diseases are they transporting into our pet population?
•;is monitoring shelters and rescue groups with regard to animal care and the adopting
out animals?Are these people
eers that come in during their off time from their careers or are do they have degrees in animal science or veterinary
Ine.Do these entities have to adhere to the same rules as our licensed kennels as mandated by each state legislature and
-iced States Department of A riculture? Who is to blame for an abandoned animal or an animal who is relinquished to a
g
r by an owner who is no longer able to care for it? Is that the fault of a licensed kennei owner? If so,please explain how.
general public will be robbed cf the basic right of choice if pet stores are no longer allowed to offer puppies from licensed
is nor will anyone have the experience of raising a young puppy of their choosing as I did as a young boy which helped me
IK
