714 5th Street, Fairbury, NE 68352
www.LambertVetSupply.com
1-800-344-6337 ( Fax 866-787-1177
Bert Vet Supply
The professional's authority in the pet care industry.
October 6, 2015
To whom it may concern:
Questions have arisen as to whether puppies from backyard breeders are actually
healthier than commercially licensed breeders' puppies. For reasons unknown to me, the
perception is that an unregulated backyard breeder would actually be healthier than a
controlled, regulated breeder with health, biosecurity, and feeding protocols put in place.
Many licensed breeders have years of experience working_ side-by-side with their
licensed veterinarian to make sure the health and well-being of their breeding stock and
puppies are top priority.
I am a consulting veterinarian for breeders as well as running my own clinic
taking care of many domestic animals. I have been in practice over five years and have
worked with many breeders across the county during that time. My duties have included
health checks, developing nutrition and health protocols, and developing biosecurity
plans.
I believe puppies from licensed breeders are of the utmost health as continued
production of healthy pets is their livelihood. They are regulated, inspected, and held to
high standards of production that the backyard breeder is not. While backyard breeders
could follow these regulations, they are not required to.
I have toured many breeder facilities and found all of those to be above
expectation and far surpassing regulations required of them by the state and federal
regulations. These animals come first and foremost in breeder's lives.
For someone to shut down the regulated part of an industry to support the non-
regulated part goes against all of the reasons for putting these rules in place. I believe
that breeders who abide by the laws set forth should not be discriminated against when
selling their animals as they are of the highest health.
DVM
Sinn, DV M
Lambert Vet Supply
1111
