Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />March 29, 2017 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 6 of7 <br />227 <br />Ms. Curti stated the budget does not reflect the costs for the film series, which would be about <br />228 <br />$125. The expenses coming up would be the essay contest awards and the Commission will need <br />229 <br />to determine if they would be providing refreshments at the Naturalization Ceremony. <br />230 <br />231 <br />Commissioner Carey asked if the Commission had determined the number of winners they <br />232 <br />would have for the essay contest. Ms. Curti stated traditionally the Commission has awarded the <br />233 <br />top 3 places and 3 honorable mentions. <br />234 <br />235 <br />Commissioner Peterson stated last year the Commission awarded $150 to the first place, $75 to <br />236 <br />the second place, $50 to the third place and the honorable mentions rec3eived $15 each. The <br />237 <br />previous year, the first-place winner received $100. <br />238 <br />239 <br />Commissioner Slade stated they had increased the first-placeprize amount because they were not <br />240 <br />participating in the State Essay Contest. <br />241 <br />242 <br />Chair Groff stated the Commission would determine the amount next month. <br />243 <br />244 <br />b.Calendar = One World Under the Same Sky –April 26 <br />245 <br />246 <br />Ms. Curti stated she had attended a meeting with the High School about the One World Under <br />247 <br />the Same Sky Event. They are working on a press release to send out. She reviewed the other <br />248 <br />events on the Commission’s calendar. <br />249 <br />250 <br />Announcements <br />251 <br />252 <br />Ms. Curti stated there were no new announcements at this time. <br />253 <br />254 <br />Future Agenda Items <br />255 <br />256 <br />Chair Groff stated they would follow-up on the items presented during the meeting. <br />257 <br />258 <br />Ms. Curti stated the agenda would also include discussion on the Rosefest Parade, discussion on <br />259 <br />the Naturalization Ceremony, election of the Chair and Vice Chair, swearing in of the new <br />260 <br />Commissioner, review of the essay contest scores, and additional discussion on the mental health <br />261 <br />forum. <br />262 <br />263 <br />Commissioner Peterson stated there would also be an update on the HRC and CEC combination. <br />264 <br />265 <br />Commissioner Carey stated Commissioner’s should also bring in film series ideas for discussion. <br />266 <br />267 <br />Chair Groff thanked Commissioner Slade for her service on the Human Rights Commission. <br />268 <br />269 <br />Adjournment <br />270 <br />271 <br /> <br />
