Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />March 29, 2017 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 5 of7 <br />Chair Groff asked if they were still going to move forward with electing a Chair and Vice Chair <br />182 <br />knowing that the HRC and CEC were being combined in the near future. <br />183 <br />184 <br />Ms. Curti stated the City Code does specify that the Chair and Vice Chair be elected in April. <br />185 <br />186 <br />Commissioner Slade made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Carey to nominated Chair <br />187 <br />Groff to serve as the Chair of the Human Rights Commission. <br />188 <br />189 <br />Chair Groff accepted the nomination. He stated he would be completing his term next year and <br />190 <br />due to term limits, he would not be able to continue serving on the HRC. <br />191 <br />192 <br />Commissioner Peterson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Carey to nominate <br />193 <br />Commissioner Dailey to serve as the Vice Chair of the Human Rights Commission. <br />194 <br />195 <br />Commissioner Dailey accepted the nomination. <br />196 <br />197 <br />Chair’s Report <br />198 <br />199 <br />a.Update on Imagine Roseville Community Conversations <br />200 <br />201 <br />Chair Groff stated he had attended the three-part film series, the Imagine Roseville meetings and <br />202 <br />the Ask a Black Man presentation. Do Good Roseville had sponsored the Ask a Black Man <br />203 <br />event and they are planning on offering it again in other communities. <br />204 <br />205 <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br />206 <br />207 <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel stated the Human Rights Club at the High School is teaching again <br />208 <br />th <br />in May to 9 graders. She is working on developing a curriculum for this. They will be talking <br />209 <br />about the Syrian Refugee Crisis, Freedom of Speech and Expression, and Title 9 in schools. She <br />210 <br />had been talking with teachers to try and expand this curriculum to other grades. Since April is <br />211 <br />Sexual Assault Awareness month the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s theme for this <br />212 <br />year is Engaging New Voices and the Human Rights Group is planning to send postcards to <br />213 <br />fraternities and sororities. The postcard will include statistics, steps that they can take to make <br />214 <br />their campus environment safer and how they can advocate for sexual assault awareness.
