March 29, 2017 <br />Item 5.D <br />Race Film Series <br />Background <br />The Commission hosteda three-part film seriescalled“Race–The Power of an Illusion” with <br />the Ramsey County Library, Shoreview Human Rights Commission and Do Good Rosevilleon <br />March1, 8, and 15. A discussion moderated by Don Eubanks followed each film. <br />About 60 people attended the first film and approximately 75 people attended the second and <br />third. Many people attended all three films andsome attended one or two of them. The films <br />lasted aboutan hour and were followed by adiscussion among participantsthat was facilitated <br />by Don Eubanks.Several members of the Shoreview Human Rights Commission attended all <br />three films. <br />The films were well received by participants. At the last session, many participants expressed <br />interest in additional films and discussions as well actions the community and individuals can <br />take to address racial inequities and prejudices. <br />Discussion <br />Staff from the Ramsey County Library were very accommodating in hosting and promoting the <br />film series. Ramsey County Library Branch Manager Carol Jackson and representatives from the <br />Shoreview Human Rights Commission and Do Good Roseville all expressed interest in hosting <br />additional programs in the future, either at the Roseville or the Shoreview libraries. <br />The Commission may consider appointing a subcommittee to review potential films or topics <br />and make recommendations about films and discussion seriesto co-sponsor in the future. <br /> <br />
