Commissioner Peterson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Carey to <br />nominate Commissioner Dailey to serve as the Vice Chair of the Human Rights <br />Commission. <br /> <br />Commissioner Dailey accepted the nomination. <br /> <br />Chair’s Report <br /> <br />a.Update on Imagine Roseville Community Conversations <br /> <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated he had attended the three-part film series, the Imagine Roseville <br />meetings and the Ask a Black Man presentation. Do Good Roseville had sponsored <br />the Ask a Black Man event and they are planning on offering it again in other <br />communities. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel stated the Human Rights Club at the High School is <br />th <br />teaching again in May to 9 graders. She is working on developing a curriculum for <br />this. They will be talking about the Syrian Refugee Crisis, Freedom of Speech and <br />Expression, and Title 9 in schools. She had been talking with teachers to try and <br />expand this curriculum to other grades. Since April is Sexual Assault Awareness <br />month the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s theme for this year is <br />Engaging New Voices and the Human Rights Group is planning to send postcards to <br />fraternities and sororities. The postcard will include statistics, steps that they can <br />take to make their campus environment safer and how they can advocate for sexual <br />assault awareness. The stated the stereotype displays that they had at the school <br />will be displayed at City Hall. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated Youth Commission Cederberg is phasing out so they will need to <br />start the application process for Youth Commissioners. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated City Manager Trudgeon suggested waiting until after the HRC and <br />CEC have been combined. <br /> <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />a.Budget Update <br /> <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the budget does not reflect the costs for the film series, which would <br />be about $125. The expenses coming up would be the essay contest awards and the <br />Commission will need to determine if they would be providing refreshments at the <br />Naturalization Ceremony. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey asked if the Commission had determined the number of winners <br />they would have for the essay contest. Ms. Curti stated traditionally the Commission <br />has awarded the top 3 places and 3 honorable mentions. <br /> <br />Commissioner Peterson stated last year the Commission awarded $150 to the first <br />place, $75 to the second place, $50 to the third place and the honorable mentions <br />rec3eived $15 each. The previous year, the first-place winner received $100. <br /> <br /> <br />
