August 16, 2017 <br />Item7a. <br />Consensus Workshop <br />Background <br />The Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission will hold a special meeting on <br />Tuesday, August 15, 2017, in order to have a facilitated discussion to develop a work plan for <br />the remainder of 2017 and 2018. This special meeting will use the Institute of Cultural Affairs <br />technique of facilitation called Technology of Participation. This meeting will be a different <br />format than a regular commission meeting and will be facilitated by staff liaison, Rebecca <br />Olson, who is trained in the facilitation technique. <br />The purpose of this Consensus Workshop is to come up with clearly defined issues, areas or <br />broad topics that the commission wants to focus on for the rest of 2017 and in 2018. The <br />workshop is designed to get the commission thinking in broad terms that reflect the <br />commissions purpose, objectives, duties and functions as outlined in ordinance (attached). <br />Another special meeting/workshop will be held on August 24 th to determine the specific tasks <br />and timeline of the new work plan. <br />Staff will present a summary overview of the Consensus Workshop and the outcomes from <br />that meeting. <br />Requested Action <br />Informational purposes only. <br />
