outlet off of Cohansey St on the east end of Central Park. The outlet is failing and
in need of repair.
• The Walsh Pond Lift Station located in Midland Hills will be replaced. The lift
station was built in 1973. The project has been bid and should be constructed by
May 2018.
• Staff will be working with Rice Creek Watershed District to install an Iron
Enhanced Sand filter adjacent to Oasis Pond. Clean Water Land and Legacy
money ($340,000) was awarded to the District by the State.
• This existing pond located near Oakcrest Ave, east of Fairview is an existing
storm pond with a concrete ditch captures water from Rosedale Commons, and
provides rate control during large rain events. Staff will be studying and
designing plans to retrofit this pond to have an Iron Enhanced Sand Filter bench
installed around the perimeter. This filter bench will provide similar rate control,
but it will increase the removal of pollutants that degrade our local water
resources. The addition of this project will help the City meet a Total Maximum
Daily Load (TMDL) for Long Lake. Construction would not occur in 2018 but at
a later date.
• Staff is currently studying the Fairview Trunk Storm Sewer System. This storm
sewer is currently overcapacity given its drainage area and 1960's design
standards.
•
Staff will design an underground storage and reuse project to be located along the
Fairview Trunk System, south of County Road B. The project will capture water
from the trunk line and allow for storage and help alleviate local drainage and
flooding issues. The stored water will also be available to use for irrigation at
Evergreen Park, or will be drained back into the system when capacity is
available. The project design will start after the analysis of the Fairview Trunk
line is complete. The City received $300,000 in State Grant Funds from the Met
Council, and will also work with the Rice Creek Watershed District on the
proj ect.
• Staff will work on maintaining Ditch 2 from the St Croix Lift Station to County
Road D. Maintenance will include tree and brush removal. Staff will then follow
up to review the ditch profile to ensure it is flowing as intended, and that it can
adequately handle the volume and rate from the lift station.
4. Other Improvements
Rail Road Crossing Upgrades: Staff will be working with Minnesota Commercial Railway
to replace two railroad crossings. One on Long Lake Road and the other on County Road C2.
The existing railroad crossing of the roadways are in poor condition. The project will consist
of replacing the tracks in the roadway with a new concrete surface and new rails. Municipal
State Aid funds will pay for the City portion of the costs.
Twin Lakes East Collector: As an extension of the Twin Lakes Parkway improvements, the
intersections of Terrace Ave and Lincoln Ave, and Lincoln Ave and C-2 will be evaluated to
provide a better connection from Fairview Ave to Snelling Avenue.
