Encourage the <br />use of non - <br />motorized <br />transportation by <br />providing and supporting <br />development of a high- <br />quality network of both <br />off-road and on -road <br />pathways, and ensure <br />that bicycle and <br />pedestrian routes are <br />safe, efficient and <br />attractive. <br />ChapterX—Transportation (DRAB) <br />Adopted XXXXXXXX XX, 2017 <br />4.8 Encourage transit -supportive development along existing and <br />future transit corridors. <br />4.9 Provide input into the rail corridor planning and abandonment <br />process. If rails are removed, the corridors should be preserved for <br />public uses, such as transit or pathways. In the event of rail line <br />abandonment, an appropriate public agency should acquire the <br />land for public purposes. <br />4.10 Play an active role in planning for potential transitways and <br />preserving potential rights-of-way and station locations. <br />5.1 Recognize the needs and preferences of pedestrians and cyclists <br />with various skill, experience levels and purpose by providing a wide <br />range of facilities to accommodate commuter, functional and <br />recreational trips <br />5.2 Create and/or upgrade on -road bicycle facilities, where feasible, <br />to ensure the safety of cyclists and improve the efficiency of the <br />bicycle network. <br />5.3 Update the Pathways Master Plan as needed. <br />5.4 Expand, maintain and promote a system of continuous and <br />connected pathways that encourage walking and biking. <br />5.5 Plan for and support a multi -modal transportation system that <br />moves people and goods safely and efficiently. <br />Page X-48 <br />
