Link for online map: www.mda.state.mn.us/eabstatus <br />SURVEY <br />See the USDA Report for EAB trapping results from 2017. <br />The MDA will be assisting cities with delimit surveys to determine extent of EABinfestations in newly discovered <br />areas over the winter. <br />Please report any suspicious trees using the GLEDN (Great Lakes Early Detection Network) smartphone/tablet <br />app or e-mail photos to arrest.the.pest@state.mn.us. <br />Biosurveillance, Final Results for 2017 Field Season <br />Biosurveillance was conducted at 32 biosurveillance sites in 23 different cities: Afton, Bloomington, <br />o <br />Brooklyn Center, Eden Prairie, Frontenac, Garrison, Lake St. Croix Beach, Lakeland, Marine on St. Croix, <br />Minnetonka, Nisswa, Oakdale, Red Wing, Rochester, Rockville, Scandia, Shoreview, St. Paul, Taylors <br />Falls, Waite Park, Wayzata, West St. Paul, White Bear Lake, Wyoming. <br />288 buprestid beetles were captured in the summer of 2017 (183 last year). Four EAB were captured at <br />o <br />sites in Rochester, Shoreview, and St. Paul. <br />58 volunteers were involved in the 2017 summer field season. <br />o <br />460 hours spent on Cerceris fumipennis scouting and biosurveillance. <br />o <br />222 hours completed by 6 Super Volunteers <br />197 new sites searched in 84 communities located within 22 counties. <br />o <br />30 new Cerceris fumipennis nesting sites were identified. <br />o <br />Currently, there are a total of 86 Cerceris fumipennis nesting sites that have been identified in <br />o <br />Minnesota. <br /> <br />REGULATORY <br />NOTICE: No Regulated Articles are legally allowed to move outside of a quarantine (untreated <br />or treated), unless they are accompanied by a certificate or limited permit. Certificates and <br />limited permits are only available when a compliance agreement is signed between the <br />Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the firm interested in moving the regulated article. <br />Martin County Update: A formal quarantine has been established for Martin County as <br />th <br />of November 1, 2017. The public comment period was open through October 10. One <br />comment was received and responded to. The public meeting was very well attended with more than 60 people <br />in attendance. Attendees ranged from homeowners to tree care professionals with county staff and DNR also <br />present. Katy also attended the Martin County Board of Commissioner’s meeting and answered questions about <br />the quarantine. Katy and Jennifer Burington in conjunction with Martin County Planning and Zoning Department <br />hosted informational meetings for the industry, county and city staff, soil and water departments, park <br />departments, and master gardeners from Martin County and the surrounding counties. There were over 50 <br />people in attendance between the two meetings. <br />MDA now has seven (7) certified firewood producers. TSL Firewood out of Milaca successfully me the treatment <br />nine (9) certified firewood producers in the state. <br />Six (6) cooperative USDA/MDA compliance agreements were issued. Ten (10) intrastate (MDA) compliance <br />agreements were issued. One was a new compliance agreement for a sawmill in Martin County. <br />Three (3) inspections were conducted. No violations were reported. <br />Twenty-seven (27) firewood surveys were received. The information collected from the firewood surveys is <br />entered into a spreadsheet and that information is shared with the Department of Commerce if there is a <br />potential labeling violation. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
